30A With Toddlers: Small Kids, Big Beach Vacation

30A can feel almost designed for family vacations: white-sand beaches, little coastal towns you can explore on foot, grassy spaces where toddlers can burn off energy, state parks, ice cream stops, outdoor movies, playgrounds and plenty of places where nobody minds if dinner happens a little earlier than usual.

The trick is remembering that Scenic Highway 30A is not one single destination. Dune Allen feels different from Seaside. Seaside feels different from Alys Beach. Rosemary Beach feels different from Grayton. Where you stay can completely change what an easy family day looks like.

This guide breaks 30A down into practical family stops so you can spend less time figuring out what to do and more time actually enjoying the trip.

Best Easy Beach Access Look for South Walton's regional beach accesses with parking, restrooms and boardwalks.
Best Toddler Energy Burn Seaside's playground and Amphitheater lawn or Rosemary Beach's playground and splash pad.
Best Nature Day Topsail Hill, Grayton Beach, Deer Lake or Camp Helen State Park.
Best Easy Family Evening The Big Chill for food choices, open-air space and rotating family entertainment.

First: Understand How Beach Access Works on 30A

South Walton has more than 50 beach and bay access locations along its coastline, but they are not all the same. Some neighborhood accesses are essentially walk-up boardwalks, while the larger regional accesses can offer parking, restrooms, accessible facilities and seasonal lifeguards.

Before loading the stroller, beach wagon and half the contents of your vacation rental into the car, check the official Visit South Walton Beach & Bay Access guide to see exactly what your chosen access offers.

Parent tip: With toddlers, a beach access with parking, restrooms and a boardwalk can be worth driving a few extra minutes. Convenience matters a lot more when someone suddenly needs a bathroom, snack or nap.

West 30A: Dune Allen, Gulf Place & Blue Mountain Beach

On West 30A, several regional accesses are especially useful for families. Dune Allen Regional Beach Access offers parking and accessible restrooms and boardwalk access, while Ed Walline Regional Beach Access near Gulf Place includes parking, restrooms, a picnic pavilion and beach accessibility features. Blue Mountain Regional Beach Access also has parking and restrooms.

If you're staying in this part of the corridor, see our Santa Rosa Beach & West 30A delivery guide.

Central 30A: Grayton, WaterColor, Seaside & Seagrove

Central 30A is where many families spend a lot of time walking between restaurants, shops, greens and the beach. Seagrove Regional Beach Access offers parking and accessible facilities, while Grayton Beach adds both community beach access and nearby state-park options.

For rental delivery in Grayton Beach, WaterColor, Seaside and Seagrove, visit our Central 30A family rental guide.

East 30A: Watersound, Alys, Seacrest, Rosemary & Inlet Beach

At the eastern end of 30A, Inlet Beach Regional Access is one of the most useful public beach options for families because it includes a large regional access area, restrooms, accessible parking and boardwalk access.

For East 30A delivery information, visit our Rosemary Beach, Seacrest & Inlet Beach family rental guide.

Best Places to Let Toddlers Run Around

Seaside: Playground + Amphitheater Lawn

Seaside is one of the easiest places on 30A to build a toddler-friendly outing without a rigid itinerary.

The town's green spaces include the central Amphitheater lawn, and Seaside also maintains an official playground near its recreation facilities. During different seasons, the Amphitheater hosts family programming such as children's theater, kid-focused music performances and outdoor movies.

Instead of planning around one specific event, check the current Seaside event calendar before your trip.

If nothing special is scheduled, the lawn itself still gives younger kids a place to move while the adults figure out food, coffee or the next stop.

Rosemary Beach: Playground & Splash Pad

Rosemary Beach is another excellent community for a slower family outing.

The community highlights a shaded playground near Round Road and Windward Lane along with a splash pad near St. Augustine Green. Those kinds of simple stops can be more valuable with a toddler than adding another ticketed attraction to the schedule.

See Rosemary Beach's official kids activities guide for current family ideas.

Alys Beach: Parks, Green Space & Architecture

Alys Beach is especially enjoyable as a walking stop. Its official town guide describes a network of parks, pathways, public art and green spaces woven through the community.

Family-friendly places include the Amphitheatre lawn and fountain, Central Park and Fonville Park, where the landscape includes winding paths and playful public-art elements.

You can browse the official Alys Beach Art & Parks guide before you go.

Worth knowing: Some Alys Beach amenities are reserved for homeowners and registered guests. Treat the town's public-facing parks, merchants, architecture and event areas differently from private resort amenities.

State Parks That Are Actually Worth Putting on the Family Schedule

One of the best things about 30A is that the trip doesn't have to be beach-condo-beach-condo for seven straight days. The corridor is surrounded by unusually beautiful state parks, dune lakes, trails and preserved coastline.

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park sits on the west side of 30A and combines miles of white-sand beach with coastal dune lakes, trails, picnic areas and a playground.

One family-friendly advantage is the tram service from the day-use area toward the beach, which can save some walking when you're carrying small children and beach gear.

If your toddler is happier exploring than sitting still, this is a great place to mix a little nature with a beach morning.

Grayton Beach State Park

Grayton Beach State Park is one of Central 30A's signature outdoor stops, with beach access, trails and Western Lake, one of the area's coastal dune lakes.

Think of it as a good option when the family wants a beach day that feels a little more natural and less built-up than the town centers.

Deer Lake State Park

Deer Lake State Park near Watersound protects another rare coastal dune lake and offers a long boardwalk through the dune environment to the beach.

For toddlers, the boardwalk itself can be part of the adventure. For parents, the scenery is a reminder that 30A's natural landscape is every bit as impressive as its architecture.

The park can reach capacity during busy periods, so check conditions before making it the centerpiece of your morning.

Camp Helen State Park

Just beyond the eastern end of 30A near Inlet Beach, Camp Helen State Park sits between the Gulf and Lake Powell.

The park offers trails, picnic areas, historic buildings, swimming and opportunities to explore one of Florida's largest coastal dune lakes. It is a particularly nice choice if your family enjoys quieter nature outings rather than amusement-style attractions.

Current park notices can change, so check the official page before planning around equipment rentals or specific programs.

Eden Gardens State Park

For a complete change of scenery, Eden Gardens State Park in Santa Rosa Beach offers shaded grounds, gardens, picnic areas, trails and the historic Wesley House.

This is a good option for a slower morning with grandparents, little kids or anyone who needs a break from full sun and sand.

Free—or Nearly Free—Family Fun on 30A

You Don't Need a Ticket for Every Memory

Some of the best 30A family moments are simply walking a town center, listening to live music, finding a playground, watching an outdoor movie or giving the kids room to run on a green.

Check Seaside's Family Events

Seaside regularly programs complimentary family activities in Central Square. Depending on the season, that can include children's theater, kids music performances, outdoor movies and other community events.

Schedules change, so use the official Seaside calendar instead of planning from an old social-media post.

Walk Alys Beach's Parks & Art

A stroll through the public-facing areas of Alys Beach's art and park network gives families something visually interesting to do without turning the outing into a major production.

Hang Out at The Big Chill

The Big Chill in Watersound is one of the easiest multi-family stops on 30A because its open-air setup combines multiple food choices with a large central gathering space.

The venue's calendar frequently includes family-oriented entertainment such as movie nights, children's performances, magic/comedy, art activities and seasonal programming. Check the current Big Chill events calendar before you go.

Even when there is no special event, having several food options in one place is useful when the toddler wants pizza, somebody else wants tacos and the adults just want everyone fed.

Easy Family Stops by 30A Community

Grayton Beach

Grayton works well when you want a more relaxed, old-Florida feel. Combine a morning at Grayton Beach State Park with breakfast or lunch nearby.

Raw & Juicy operates a Grayton Beach location as well as its Alys Beach location, offering breakfast and lunch options and a laid-back atmosphere.

Seaside

Seaside is easy to understand with kids: park once, walk, eat, let them run and see what is happening in Central Square.

Modica Market is a longtime family-owned market in downtown Seaside and can be handy for breakfast, snacks or grabbing supplies.

For a sit-down meal, Bud & Alley's has served Seaside for decades and maintains a dedicated kids menu.

The nearby REP Theatre also presents professional theater and family programming, with current offerings listed through Seaside and The REP's official sites.

Blue Mountain Beach

Sometimes the entire family itinerary should be: beach, dinner, ice cream.

Blue Mountain Beach Creamery is a local, family-operated stop serving homemade ice cream, yogurt and sorbet. It is exactly the kind of easy after-dinner tradition kids remember.

Watersound

For families who want flexibility, The Big Chill is hard to beat. Food, desserts, coffee and entertainment are clustered together around an open-air gathering space.

If you're staying nearby, also look at Watersound's current community events, which can include family nights and seasonal programming.

Alys Beach

Alys Beach is a great stroller outing because of its pedestrian-focused layout, pathways and compact town center.

For coffee, breakfast or grab-and-go food, Fonville Press Market & Café combines a market, coffee shop and café.

Raw & Juicy is another useful family stop for breakfast, lunch, smoothies and lighter options.

Rosemary Beach

Rosemary Beach works particularly well for a walking evening. Let the kids use the playground or splash pad, wander the town center and grab dinner or dessert without trying to build an overly complicated night.

Start with the official Rosemary Beach kids activities page for current ideas.

Family-Friendly Places to Eat Without Making Dinner a Project

Dining with toddlers is usually less about finding the most famous restaurant and more about finding a place where everyone can order something, eat before a meltdown and get back to vacation.

Bud & Alley's – Seaside

A longtime Seaside landmark with waterfront dining and a dedicated kids menu.

The Big Chill – Watersound

Multiple food concepts in one open-air setting make mixed family preferences much easier.

Modica Market – Seaside

Useful for breakfast, snacks, groceries and quick family stops in Central Square.

Blue Mountain Beach Creamery

A simple post-beach or after-dinner reward with homemade frozen treats.

Fonville Press – Alys Beach

Coffee, café food, market items and grab-and-go options in the Alys Beach town center.

Raw & Juicy – Alys & Grayton

Breakfast, lunch, smoothies and lighter options when everybody needs a reset from vacation food.

Is 30A Stroller Friendly?

Some parts of 30A are fantastic with a stroller. Others are not.

Town centers such as Seaside, Alys Beach and Rosemary Beach are good places to use one because you can combine walking, food, shops and green space in a relatively compact area.

A standard stroller becomes far less useful once you reach deep beach sand. That's where a beach wagon with proper sand wheels becomes the better tool.

Use both differently: stroller for town centers, restaurants and paved paths; sand-wheel wagon for chairs, towels, toys, coolers and gear going to the beach.

What to Do When the Weather Turns

30A is an outdoor destination, which means rainy days require a little creativity. Afternoon storms are also common enough that you should not assume a gray sky ruins the entire day.

Good backup strategies include:

  • Take an extended breakfast or lunch instead of trying to outrun a storm.
  • Browse the shops and market areas in Seaside, Rosemary Beach or Alys Beach.
  • Check current programming at The REP Theatre.
  • Grab coffee and snacks at Fonville Press and wait out a passing shower.
  • Use the downtime for naps and save the big outing for late afternoon.

With toddlers, a two-hour condo reset is sometimes a better vacation decision than forcing everybody into another activity simply because it was on the schedule.

A Relaxed 30A Day With a Toddler

Try This Rhythm

8:00–10:30 AM: Beach while the day is still comfortable.

10:30–11:30 AM: Snack, shower and head back to the rental.

11:30 AM–2:30 PM: Lunch, nap and quiet time.

3:00–5:00 PM: Pick one easy outing: a state park, Seaside, Rosemary Beach playground, Alys Beach parks or The Big Chill.

5:00–7:00 PM: Early dinner before the busiest part of the evening.

After dinner: Ice cream, a short town walk or a family event if the kids still have anything left in the tank.

The point is not the exact times. It's building the day around the reality that toddlers need breaks.

What Should You Bring From Home—and What Can You Rent?

There are a few things most parents will want to keep familiar: bottles, medication, favorite sleep items, comfort toys, diapers and anything your child absolutely depends on.

Bulky gear is different.

Gear You Can Have Delivered on 30A

The Crib Connection provides contactless baby and beach gear delivery throughout the 30A corridor, including West 30A, Central 30A and East 30A vacation communities.

One Last 30A Tip: Don't Try to See All of 30A in One Day

This is probably the most useful advice in the whole guide.

Driving from Dune Allen to Rosemary Beach, stopping everywhere in between and trying to check off every famous town is not how you make a toddler vacation relaxing.

Pick a section of 30A and enjoy it.

If you're staying on West 30A, spend time around Gulf Place, Blue Mountain and Topsail Hill. If you're in Central 30A, enjoy Grayton, WaterColor, Seaside and Seagrove. If you're staying east, focus on Watersound, Alys, Seacrest, Rosemary and Inlet Beach.

You can always come back.

Bring the Kids. Leave Some of the Gear at Home.

The Crib Connection delivers baby and beach equipment throughout Scenic Highway 30A so your family can spend less time hauling gear and more time enjoying the beach.
